Dog Hotel

Today a DOG TAXI service picked up Bubbie to take her to a dog hotel for the next two weeks. The hotel (for dogs only) is 5 star. They accepted Bubbie (even though she could get pregnant by just looking at a male dog) because she will be with all females and they only accepted neutered males. This place has couches, rugs, a pool, running areas, parks, etc. for dogs. I tried to get in but they said I wasn’t a big enough bitch.

HOWEVER, when the taxi arrived, our little Bubbie (who is not so little) willingly jumped into the back of the van and sat upright and looked out the window at me as they were pulling away. I might be reading into this because we are in a highly emotional state right now….but she just kept looking at me with those beautiful, sensitive big browns as she pulled away – her gaze NEVER left mine (I was standing by the gate). She sat there and just kept looking at me with kindness, love and …..strength. Amazing, huh?

Also, this morning when we got the news about Nick it was 4AM. She got up with us and followed us everywhere, sitting next to Gabe. We decided at 7AM to go back to sleep. She jumped up on the bed and snuggled BETWEEN us with her head on my shoulder (she usually sleeps at the foot of the bed – more lately – has not come near our heads for over a week). We miss her already and want to bring her in April….we will discuss this endlessly with you (pros and cons).

She is special – at least to us three…

Snuggles

These are SO CUTE – well, she misses you (especially at 4:15AM). She’s used to snuggling up to you – we both noticed that at night she snakes her way from the foot of the bed to our shoulder or face and then falls asleep – she didn’t do this before and now I see the pictures and she’s gotten used to closer contact. She’s a love….that hasn’t changed.

Know the Toys!

I am so sorry I’m behind with the pictures. She’s growing so fast and is JUST AS SWEET as day one. Some new tricks are being prepared for your trip:

Kiss (already described)

  • Chase (a new slant on an old “trick”)
  • Rope (a new improvisation to MUSH)
  • Catch (she’s getting REALLY good)
  • Walk (she grabs her leash and takes it to the front door/front gate)

I’m working with her on identifying toys. I have this feeling she uses them to communicate. For instance. There is one I pack with some treats before we leave in the morning and afternoon for work. I call it TREAT. When I got home tonight for the first time (I know she’s hungry) she grabbed the treat toy and kept jumping on me. In the past she would have just started to bite me to make me understand that she’s hungry. But now she’s using the treat toy. Maybe it was just a fluke….

She’s so cute. I’ll try for some pics – but the best will be when you’re here. The pictures are hard to get because she doesn’t do a lot of these “tricks” with Gabe so I sort of have to photograph myself while working with here. Some things she’s NOT so good at:  Come; walking on the leash – sometimes yes, sometimes she pulls so hard my hand falls off. I was walking with her and Gabe and she would stay with Gabe. I would walk half a block and call her. She would come running so fast – like a white streak and receive a treat. Then the last couple of times we tried it, she went beserk and started to run all over the place (in the street). So, we don’t do that “trick” anymore. I would like to give her the opportunity to run more but I’m too afraid of letting her “go” because she has NO JUDGEMENT or car sense.

Maybe you can advise when you’re here. So far now, she’s really good when we eat (she stopped jumping on us and we don’t feed her AT ALL from the table). GREAT dog….can’t WAIT for you to be here with all of us.

Drag On – The Overview

Hi Eric,

Well, our Bup-Pup has a new trick. You take a rope and play pull (she just about yanks your arm off). The, as you are pulling she will lay down, FOLD her front paws in and you’re supposed to DRAG her over the tiles while she hangs onto the rope. It’s a CLASSIC. I will get it on film and maybe Assaf can help me upload it to YOUTUBE tonight.

Marcia Luvving Her Bubkiss

I wish I could master the posting of videos. Her “latest” thing is to bug me when I’m upstairs using the computer. She “jumps” into my lap (with her hind feet on the floor). She has a pull toy in her mouth. If I grab it, she rolls me in the chair all the way to the rug which stops us. She then jumps back up on her hind legs and PUSHES me back and starts all over again. It’s REALLY FUNNY. You will see this when you’re here. It’s hysterical. I’ll try to get some “stills” tonight. She has lately been literally JUMPING into Gabe’s lap when he’s watching TV. She weighs about 35-40 lbs now so that’s quite a “lap” dog trick.

She also now is no longer in her “crate”. She’s too big and she’s “responsible” enough to be left out to wander in the yard. Well, we come home at around 1PM (lunch) and 6PM (me) and 8:30PM (Gabe). Can you believe that she waits at the gate during these times almost every day? Even if I’m home, she goes out and waits for Gabe to come home for lunch or for dinner. It’s really cute. AND, yesterday I was late (7PM) and she was sitting there with one of her soft toys in her mouth (the bird house). I felt SO BAD…we are following your advice and taking her for small trips in the car. Last night to the…..gas station (what a thrill). But she loves to ride in the car so why not?

OK, I’ll get some pics!!

Whose Fault?

Hey Eric!

I wanted to update you about Bubkiss and her peeing in the house. WE WERE CAUSING IT!  Apparently some dogs have an allergy to milk (they are lactose intolerant). It causes a lot of problems such as frequent itching, scratching and all kinds of bowl/urinary problems. She was peeing about 20 times/day and I thought maybe a bladder infection or stone. So, I started to looks things up on the internet and found out about milk. We were giving her a bowl with every meal PLUS left over yogurts and cottage cheese from our breakfasts and lunches.

Two days ago I stopped it all. She’s just on steak, chicken, treats and dog food – that’s it! AND she is completely housebroken – in two days (no accidents). I read that you can’t possibly train a dog to go outside when they have urinary frequency. Since she’s such a good dog and such a pleaser I was so confused about why she kept peeing in the house.

So, she’s now perfect. Hardly ANY scratching and totally trained house trained. I feel bad that, in our plan to be so nice to her, we actually were causing her discomfort and to wet in the house! She’s SO CUTE now – I’ll tell you some more stories when we next speak!!
